Last week we started selling the Fenix BC15R bike light. It is a basic model in the webshop and given its similar construction, it is worth comparing it with the popular Fenix BC25R, which has been on offer for some time now.
How does the new bike light stand in comparison?

Light cone that does not dazzle

These are lights with a specially shaped reflector that directs light only forward and to the sides, not upwards. The light cone is therefore sharply cut off at the top and does not dazzle other drivers and pedestrians. Both lights are therefore particularly suitable for use on roads and cycle paths. With the BC25R, the upper part of the beams is really straight "cut off", the shape of the cone resembles the letter "D" belly down. The BC15R still directs some scattered light above this line.

LED in the lamp

While the Luminus SST-20 LED in the new BC15R is lighting with a cooler shade of light around 6500K, the Cree XP-G3 LED used in the BC25R is tuned to warmer neutral 4500K.

Battery and charging

Both lights have a built-in battery with a total capacity of 2600 mAh and is charged via a USB port on the bottom. USB-C is used in the BC15R. The BC25R is fitted with a micro-USB connector.

We have a charge indication on both bike lights on the top so you can see it during the ride. With the BC25R, they show how much "juice" you still have left, there are 4 diodes next to the button. The BC15R button changes the backlight to a steady or flashing green or red color.

Simple assembly and disassembly

The holders of both lights are great for quick assembly on the handlebars without the use of tools and also allow for quick removal of the light, so it can be used as a high-performance flashlight. Unlike the well-known round holder of the BC25R, which you are used to from other Fenix bike lights, the BC15R has a rubber clamp that better adapts to the different shape of the handlebars. It holds perfectly. Both types of holders are mutually compatible.

How many lumens it sends in front of the wheel

The first two modes are the same for both lights - 50 and 150 lumens. After that the BC15R has the highest mode of 400 lumens, whereas after the high mode of 350 lumens, the BC25R follows a 600 lumen turbo. In flash mode, both lights pulse between 50 lumens and maximum.

Durability and robustness

The lights are made of durable plastic, so they can withstand a fall from 1 meter. Dust and water resistance according to IP66 ensures that you do not have to be afraid to use them even in heavy rain.

Which one is right for you?

The new Fenix BC15R is a well-designed basic model in the Fenix bike lights series and will serve well as a city light or backup light for some more powerful lamps.

The Fenix BC25R has proven itself over the years as a road light with sufficient power, which thanks to the excellently mastered light cone does not bother oncoming traffic or pedestrians.
