The Keeppower RCR123A 950 mAh (16340) rechargeable battery with protection is based on lithium ion technology. Li-ion technology gives one of the best ratios of the amount of stored energy to cell weight. The batteries have no memory effect and self-discharge is minimal. Compared to standard Fenix RCR123A batteries, this cell has about 30% higher capacity while maintaining the same dimensions, so the light time is also about 30% longer with this battery. We have verified the capacity with our own measurements.
Battery protection can be divided into two areas. In the first one, electronic circuits are added on the negative pole to prevent overcharging of the cell (a situation where there is a risk of explosion with conventional Li-ion batteries) or, on the contrary, over-discharging (the battery could not be recharged). In addition, these circuits protect the battery against short circuits or high current draw that could damage the battery. If the battery electronics assess that the limits have been reached, they will disconnect the cell. The second is the overheating protection ( PTC thermal protection ) and a special anti-blast valve.
The RCR123A battery corresponds in size to the disposable lithium CR123A battery, which is why it is often used in flashlights as a rechargeable alternative to these disposable cells. Check first if your appliance supports this cell as unlike the disposable battery it has a higher nominal voltage. These batteries can be used for example in Fenix E15 XP-G2, E16, E18R, PD25R, LD15R, Fenix RC09, HM50R, HM51R, CL09, PD30, TK10, TK12, TA20, TA30.
